Betty Brinn Children’s Museum

The Betty Brinn Children's Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, sought to create an engaging, educational, and interactive traveling exhibit to celebrate America's favorite pastime, baseball. The "Big League Fun" exhibit aimed to provide children and families with an immersive experience that not only entertained but also educated them about the fundamentals of the sport, its history, and the importance of teamwork and physical activity.

Challenges

Creating "Big League Fun" presented several challenges:

  1. Engagement: The exhibit needed to captivate children of various ages and backgrounds, encouraging active participation.

  2. Educational Value: The content had to be educational, teaching children about baseball's rules, history, and associated life skills.

  3. Interactivity: Fabricating interactive elements that were durable and safe for children.

  4. Mobility: Ensuring the exhibit could be easily transported, set up, and adapted to different venues without losing its impact.

Solution

The museum partnered with educational consultants and the MLB to address these challenges. The solution was a multi-faceted exhibit with the following features:

  1. Interactive Zones: The exhibit was divided into several interactive zones, including a pitching area with speed tracking, a batting cage with virtual pitchers, and a fielding section where children could practice catching and throwing.

  2. Educational Displays: Informative panels and multimedia displays were incorporated, highlighting the history of baseball, famous players, and the science behind the sport. Interactive screens provided deeper dives into content for older children and adults.

  3. Life Skills Integration: The exhibit included sections that emphasized teamwork, fair play, and physical fitness, using baseball as a metaphor for broader life lessons. These messages were delivered vis signs, screens and interactive displays.

  4. Modular Design: The exhibit was designed to be modular and flexible, allowing it to be easily disassembled, transported, and reassembled in various locations.

"Big League Fun" was launched at the Betty Brinn Children's Museum with great fanfare. After its initial run, the exhibit began its tour across various children's museums, libraries, and community centers nationwide. Evergreen set out to fabricate this design to ensure it would last and it is still in service and looking great today, 10 years later.
